Howdy Y'all
The week went pretty well. We didn't teach a whole lot, but we did a little more work with the members, and some people finally made it to church. It's so hard to get people to see how much that simple little trip on sunday will help them, but when they finally come, they almost always notice a significant defference in their lives, right away.
It was pretty funny at church, this week. We had those investigators there, and there weren't too many people showing up, and a nearly empty chapel isn't usually a good thing when you're investigating the church... but five minutes before the meeting, about fifty EFY counselors who'll be in town for a couple weeks walked in and filled the chapel. That'll have to tide us over until the rest of our members get back from vacation.
We also had a kind of cool experience with a guy we found last week, and set with a baptismal date... we had lost touch with him immediately after that, but recently discovered that that was because he got a call from a job he'd been hoping for, soon after we left, and had to start working a lot immediately. The best part was that he recognized the correlation between meeting us and accepting what we taught, and the outpouring of blessings. He's excited to bring his wife and kids to church this coming weekend.
Well, that's pretty much it for the week... I'll take some new pictures and send them next week. I don't remember what all I've already sent...
Have a good one!

wowzers!!
I can't believe how fast the weeks are going! and I say that every week. oh man...
Anyways, this week was pretty good. We worked hard, and don't have a ton to show for it except that our shirts are a little more yellow haha. We got some bleach though, so we're fixing that. It's been hot, which is good because it makes a lot of people nicer to us, or at least give us water. I remember last summer I drank so much water... my insides must have been so clean. I plan to do it again. We have to kind of trust that people will give us water because it's tough to pack a bunch around... but it's a cool little miracle I get to see most days that, as long as we're working hard, as soon as we start to think about being thirsty, someone offers water. It's neat to know that God is taking care of us.
We are helping a Filipino guy get active in the church again, and he's from California, so that's kind of cool, I guess. He makes delicious food, and it's pretty spicy. The only thing is that it's always a lot... that's okay, I guess, though. We'll just have to only visit on days that we are on the bikes. It's pretty funny, I always tlk my companions into planning really long bike routes for the day, and all of them kinda freak out when they realize how far it actually is, but it's pretty good, because it's made us good at stopping the bikes to talk to people haha. I also Like riding through neighborhoods to make our presence known. We run into a surprisingly large number of people who haven't seen us or heard of our church before... Then a bunch that see us way more than they want haha.
The other day, a drunk guy stopped us and said he felt sorry for us, so he gave us two tacos and took my pen. It was kinda weird, and we weren't sure whether or not to eat them, but decided we were hungry and did. Kinda... I ate mine, and my companion opened his and it was just the lettuce that was supposed to go on mine. It was okay, though, because we had a big dinner and he couldn't finish it haha.
All of us have been trying to eat healthier, but there's a restaurant nearby that sells a sixty-two inch pizza, and we kind of want to go try to eat the whole thing... If we can finish it with eight people, we'd set a new record for the restaurant, and we're pretty confident, because we destroyed a forty-two incher a while back... I did the math and found out the sixty-two is actually more than twice the size, though... needless to say, that would destroy any good eating we were trying to do.... so we'll see haha.
th-th-th-th-th-that's all folk's. i hope y'all have a great week and I'll talk to you on sunday.
Love

Another Transfer
It's crazy to think that I've already been here six weeks. Time goes so fast... Elder Lish goes home six weeks from now, so that's kind of weird. Things have been going great though, and we've been really busy and excited.
Tay, the guy we started working with a couple weeks ago, is really doing very well. He's been to church twice now and is planning on being baptized on the twelfth. That may end up being moved... we want to make sure he's totally ready and he's going in for surgery soon and that might change things. He's got a really big hernia that he's just kind of let go for a while, and it's gotten pretty bad, so he's going to take care of it now... but he's doing great :) He loves the Book of Mormon, and he's feeling the spirit a lot as he's been learning. Unfortnately, his wife isn't as excited... She's okay with him doing it, but doesn't really want anything to do with it herself... I think she'll change her mind with a little time though.
We're also teaching a kid named Arturo. He's living here with his grandma, but his mom and sister who live in another ward got baptized on saturday. He didn't have the chance to be there for any of the lessons, but he went to church a couple of times and wants to be baptized. He really wants to commit himself to God and have a fresh start, so we're helping him change his habits as well. He's also looking at the twelfth, but that may also change. Probably not, though.
There's also a pretty cool guy named Roger that we're talking to about once a week... He was loking for a church for a while but kind of gave up because he didn't agree with most. He knows that God sent us to help him, but he's kind of a slow-paced guy. He's reading the Book of Mormon and thinks Joseph Smith is pretty cool. He wants more information about the life of Joseph than we really have the resources to give him, though, and he doesn't have the internet... So we're trying to figure something out.
Mike is another guy who's been looking and is confused because everyone says different things, so we're helping him there. We've really only taught him once, but he's excited because he feels he's about to have his questions answered...
It's been a really fun week because we've had the spirit with us a lot. It's really cool how when the spirit is there, the teacher and the learner both learn because really the spirit becomes the teacher. Mostly we're there to discuss and make sure the conversation stays on track so that the spirit can help them understand the truth. The best lessons are the ones that don't feel like a "lesson," but more of a discussion of the Gospel with a friend, and we help eachother recognize spiritual experiences that enrich our understanding. That's really the trick when we share spiritual thoughts with members as well. I know it was going right when I don't have to stop and say, "Well, we're running out of time. Can we share a spiritual thought?" The best ones are when our conversations flow into the scriptures and we are able to use those to help them know how to share the gospel better as a family.
I've also come to a greater understanding of faith and grace this past week. I've heard the scripture "...for we know it is by faith that we are saved, after all we can do." (2 Nephi 25:23) used often for and against church doctrine. Often, people think that grace just means God saves us unconditionally, despite anything we do, and anyone who recognizes grace through Christ will receive the ultimate reward of God. On the other hand, there are also many who worry far too much about the "all we can do" part. Thinking we can do any of it on our own and trying to reach our limit through sheer willpower will only lead to disappointment and failure, for God has given many warnings against those who "put their trust in the arm of flesh" which is weak. What really happened was that Christ payed the whole debt, exempting us from the infinite perfection that would be otherwise required for redemption from an eternity in hell. He did save us all from that. So, if we don't have to be perfect anymore, what do we have to do? We have to become perfect, for it is still true that no unclean or impure thing can dwell in God's presence. Jesus Christ paid that debt, so that we could practice. We try and fail, try and fail, and try and fail again, that is all we can do. As long as we continue with the trying, the grace of Jesus Christ, or his "strengthening and enabling power" will then come into play and make us better than we are, and start getting rid of some of those failures. That requires faith and repentance. Baptism comes when we decide we want to achieve all that God wants and won't just settle for mediocrity, and he promises us the Holy Ghost, which really just intensifies the direction we recieve and the fortifying grace that works in us., so that we can keep trying and eventually have success. Our goal is to be "perfected in Christ." Unfortunately, not everyone is worried about all that and doesn't want to become perfect in Christ one day for whatever reason... but God loves each and everyone of his children, so he has provided places for all those who don't do what is necessary for Christ to be able to perfect them, to go and be with those who became the same thing as them. It's not who we are, or what we do, but who we become that matters. Who we are is just a starting point, and what we do is what starts the change, but we can try again as many times as it takes. Hell, then, is only for those who choose it... who deny the grace of Jesus Christ and deliberately become something pitted against the peerfection of Christ... So really, we only go where we want to. We will have the level of glory and happiness and knowledge and responsibility that we desire. Alex Boye said something I really liked in his video on mormon.org: "I believe we become what we think about the most."
So that's what I've been thinking about lately... but yeah, have a great week, and I love y'all :)

What are these two gringos doing at my door?
That's definitely the look we get every day... haha
This was a pretty good week. We found this pretty cool guy named David, who's been wanting to get back into church lately, and we said we'd help him. We taught him all about the restoration of the gospel and he liked it and the Book of Mormon, and it was really cool to see the spirit help him. It all started with an invitation to church, but then evolved into a full-blown lesson (by the way, does anyone know where the term "full-blown" comes from? I would guess glass blowing or baloons or something, but I don't know; I've found myself a lt more interested in all the idioms we use as I've been learning spanish...) and when we invited him to be baptised, it was clear that he didn't quite get it all, but felt so good about it that he couldn't say no. He isn't set with a date yet, but we'll be working with him to get him ready and up to speed.
The members here are great, and the branch presidency is really excited about missonary work, so we're going to be working very closely with them. It's been pretty neat that just as I've gotten to every area so far, the leadership has been trying to put together a plan for more member missionary work, and since I've seen and been a part of all the plans thus far, I feel like I am well-prepared to help here.
In this area the spanish side seems to have been struggling for a while, so we're going to be focusing pretty hard on that for a while. One of the biggest things, I think, is the personal commitment of the missionaries to speak spanish together so as to learn how to communicate more effectively, so we've set a goal as a district to speak more spanish together (at least three hours a day per companionship; I was doing more before, but it was in an all spanish ward with more advanced speakers). We're also going to ask all of the branch members who know English and usually speak to us in English to just use spanish so we can better help their friends.
It's a bit easier to eat healthily in this area, because the members tend to be more health minded. It seems like more of the hispanics in San Antonio are "americanized," which includes less lard in all the food... haha
Well, I think that's pretty much it for the week... nothing too story worthy happened. Oh! Except one thing: while I was on exchanges with the district leader we saw an imprint of a toad in the cement where he must have gotten stuck while it was still wet. It was a little sad, but also really really funny!
There's also a custom here of carrying a stick whenever you're outside, to defend yourself from the dogs... We don't, but it's been okay because I bacame quite the dog whisperer in my last two areas. I can befrend most and intimidate the rest haha.
Anyways, that's really it. Have a great week! I love you!

Transferred!!
So here I am, accross the street from one of my old areas, learning all about the stuff on the other side of pleasanton that I was so curious about. I'm actually in a different stake than the other ward, though. I'm back on the south side of san antonio, covering two units. We're in the mission creek ward and the highland hills spanish branch. I was a little worried that I wasn't going to get to serve in a spanish area again, because I had six straight transfers in spanish areas, and that's more than a lot of missionaries get. I have really applied myself to learning it, though, which means I got to come here, and all the rest of my companions will be people that I get to teach spanish.
My new companion is Elder Von Niederhauser. Now imagine, for a moment, a little old hispanic person who doesn't speak a lick of English looking up at us and trying to say our names. That is how I know God has a sense of humor. It's been a blast, so far, too. Elder Von Niederhauser (or just Elder Niederhauser) is really funny and our personalities match up really well for working together. I've been able to make myself (with the Lord's help, obviously) a lot more open and gregarious with people I don't know, and much more quick witted, and Elder Niederhauser is also really good at that. Additionally, neither of us is really a conversation hog, so we share pretty evenly. It's worked out pretty well.
So yeah, we're off to a pretty good start. I haven't really had a chance to meet any of the investigators who were already here yet, and they're also all in english, so we've been focusing a lot on finding some more spanish people, and we have an appointment with one of the old investigators tonight, and another guy from mexico we met my first day here. The branch is on the verge of becoming a ward, so I want to kind of focus my efforts there and do some reactivation and hopefully new baptisms as well, so they can have that.
I've also found a kind of renewed energy that I didn't expect, so I set some goals for my physicall and spiritual growth that will keep me working at the same rate of acceleration, because I found myself kind of slowing down a little in my last area. I've seen a huge difference even just over the last few days. My mile time is still under six minutes, by the way ;)
For St. Patricks day I made some green rice, so I'll have to send the pictures. We are going to print some off right after emailing, so those will definitely be out today.
In sunday school, the teacher pointed something out that I found rather humorous... He said that a mother spends the first two years of a childs life trying to get him to walk and talk, but then spends the next two (or more) trying to make him stop talking and sit down. Just something to think about... haha. I love y'all a ton and will talk to you next week.

Another week...
This week was pretty slow again. Not too much of anything happened... The bishop did start a new, really cool program though. It was inspired by a general authority that visited (Elder Villareal). He's trying to get the whole ward council and all the ward missionaries to go out from four to six every sunday and visit less active members. The last half hour everyone is supposed to meet back at the church and report the good experiences to help everyone else. This week was kind of sad because just the second counselor and ward mission leader (and all the missionaries) came... The bishop was a champ, though, and decided we'd just go for it this week and hopefully the numbers would start growing. I know a lot of people would've just put it off until the next week when hopefully more people would come. He knows the secret to getting things done though; just do it and lead by example. So yeah, it was a pretty good week, but there really aren't any other stories. Not much happened in the way of finding or teaching that's worth hearing about. Oh! Max did come to church again and is getting more and more excited! It's been a really gradual thing, so we'll see what happens. Also, we get transfer calls next sunday and everyone seems to think I'm leaving. Anyways, I've got to get going, but I hope everything goes well for y'all! I love you Elder Katzakian

Another Monday Holiday
We were on exchanges on tuesday, so I was actually somewhere else, but
my companion and the other elder had a really good lesson with Perla,
where she realized what the spirit was and that she felt it every time
she went to church or read the book of mormon and that she needs to
get baptized and her boyfriend moved out and she was crying and her
member friend was crying and the missionaries were crying and the veil
was so thin that when they taught something she just knew it was true.
So I was kinda sad to have missed that... but it was good. We
weren't able to line up schedules with her again, though, and she
didn't make it to church because she had to babysit some kids because
she has been needing work really bad since her boyfriend left. She
should be getting baptized soon, though.
Also, max came to a baptism of one of the sister missionaries'
investigators, and had a good experience, and apparently told one of
the other missionaries there that he was going to be the next one
getting baptized, which the other misionary didn't tell us until later
and we didn't have a chance to talk to max about, so that's still
pending as well.
We found the Aguilar family again, but I think they were deliberately
avoiding us... we have an appointment tonight, so we'll see if they
really do want to talk to us or not. It could've just been bad
timing, though, because the dad was in the hospital a little for an
injury at work.
There have actually been a few injuries around us lately and it
worries me sometimes... We are involved in an important work and it
is true that the enemy will do all he can to hurt and destroy.
Obedience to all of the rules is important, because many of the
seemingly unimportant ones are there because of a previous or foreseen
injury or death.
Also, the other night, we got stopped by the police. We were walking
home at night, so it was pretty dark, and we were catching up to this
guy who was walking the same way and dressed all in black, carrying a
white bag. The police drove by and shined their light on him, then
us, then him again, and stopped him. We got stopped a little way up
the road by another officer while the first guy was being frisked and
found out that a door had been kicked in and the apartment robbed a
few minutes ago in the apartments we were walking away from by three
guys wearing all black, one of them carrying a white bag. So that
made us pretty suspicious looking. When he figured out we were
misionaries, though, he just took our information and let us go. Then
there was an accident in a nearby intersection, and I think they ended
up getting the real culprits there because they crashed while they
were trying to get away.
Anyways, that's pretty much the week. Nothing else too crazy
happened. Just lot's of walking and knocking.
Love you a ton!!!

Feb 13th letter
This cool guy named Antonio came to church yesterday. We
taught him almost a month ago, and sorta forgot about him since he
didn't show a ton of promise... It was kinda hard because he was a
little drunk at the time, but he expressed desires to overcome his
alcoholism, he just didn't know how. We left him with The Book of
Mormon and our number, telling him it would help him find the strength
to change, and to call us when he was ready. Then, the other night,
the english ward missionaries ran into him and found out we'd taught
him before and invited him to church. He accepted the invitation and
came. We had to get him a ride, but he really enjoyed it and wants to
keep coming and be more involved. We'll be working with him for the
next little while.
Perla is still going strong. We're going to be working on a marriage
goal with her tomorrow. She had a couple of questions about why
Joseph Smith was so important, and hadn't been reading the Book of
Mormon too much, but we explained the importance of all that and got
her going again on the book.
I think we accidentally put way too much pressure on Max, and he got a
little scared... He did come to church, but we're going to give him a
little break to see if it's something he wants or if he's just doing
it to make the members he's living with happy.
Anyways, the other day we were knocking on some trailers when a couple
goats came out of the bushes and followed us around. They kind of
scared my companion a little because he thought they were going to ram
us, but they were pretty funny. They tried to eat my sleeve a couple
times, and did butt me softly in the leg, but they were nice and went
with us to all the doors. It made a great conversation starter haha.
I didn't have my camera though... I'll make sure to bring it next time
we go over there. That reminds me! I said I'd send pictures a little
while ago and never did.... I need to do that haha. Sorry about that
I think I forgot to tell you the story of a couple weeks ago when this
random lady told us she likes to give food and gave us a huge pizza
and a bunch of huge bags of pizza toppings. That was cool and has
made meals easier since most of the toppings were meat, we just add it
to everything and it becomes more filling.
I know how to make a bunch more mexican and south american dishes now,
so that should be pretty exciting later on. It also turns out I
really like menudo (or it was probably called mondongo in dad's
mission...) I may have mentioned that, though. Also habaneros. They
are delicious. Really hot, but really good. On the anglo side of
things, though, I've also been eating a lot of peanut butter.

So my new companion is Elder Turner. He's from Salt Lake city, and he
started his mission in the Dominican Republic. He's pretty awesome,
and I'm really excited because he's the first companion I've had where
we could legitimately speak spanish all the time and actually
understand eachother, so i feel like we're both going to learn a lot
really fast. He also has this kind of laid back energy and fire that
helps us have a lot of success. He has a deck of Pokemon cards, too
haha.
Anyways, Perla is desirous to be baptized, but her boyfriend needs to
get divorced from his previous wife and he's not in a hurry to tdo
that... she doesn't want to leave him, though, because they have a kid
together... we're going to be talking to her about that and her kids
more tonight.
Also, we're going to be teaching a girl who's nine years old and
didn't get baptized because she thought she had to know the articles
of faith... That was kinda funny but kind of sad, because she's just
barely turning nine before the time the baptismal font is available,
and that requires our teaching and such, but she wanted to get
baptized sooner once she found out she didn't have to memorize the
articles of faith...
I've got to get going now, but i love you and I'lll talk to you next week.

He is back with more letters
So this week has been very busy. I'm finally seeing real purpose behind the daily records we keep. We've
been talking to so many different people I can't keep it all straight. That's a good thing, but it's a little exhausting haha. So little Jorge is pretty much set on going to a bunch of other churches
before he comes back or settles on one, and he's not super
enthusiastic about talking to us anymore, so that's kind of a
bummer... but his little sister is amazing. She reads the Book of
Mormon and prays every day and she says she's received an answer and
that it's true and she is sure she wants to be baptized, but daddy
Jorge wants her to wait because he wants her and her brother to choose
together and agree... we're still helping him with his vices and
stuff, too. This last Sunday they accidentally slept in a little
because of a late Saturday, and didn't quite make it to church, but
they'll be there next week and a couple other kids were just left with
them and they got permission from the parents to take them to church
and be taught and stuff, though, so that's neat.
Max did make it to church this week. He's really committed to
changing his life and coming to God, and he wants to get baptized; he
just wants to get his life more in order first. We're working on a
goal with him.
We found this really cool family, the Garcias, who are excited to
learn, as well. We've taught them a couple times, and told them
they'll want to get baptized, but I don't think they really understood
the first time because they just kind of wen of about how their church
wasn't that great, and it was too bad that it was their church, but
they were born into it, so what can you do, right? Anyways, the
second time, (wow I almost can't think of how to word this because I'm
thinking it in Spanish and typing in English) upon hearing the account
of the first vision and what it meant, they proceeded to explain
unusual encounters with spirits they had had in the past with us and
ask us about what they might mean, and then we had to go, so I think
they still don't really get it... but their daughter (she's like
twenty) is eating it all up. We left a pamphlet and she studied it
multiple times and answered all the "additional study" questions in
the back, and told us about a friend who would also be interested.
They all also agreed to read/pray about the Book of Mormon. We'll see
what happens.
We also met a guy on the street near his house who went to church for
like a year in Arizona, then moved to some town in the sticks of Texas
where there was neither church nor missionaries. They recently moved
to Austin and we fond them. They're the Chacon family and they've got
four kids, one of them nine months old and recently released from the
hospital for some sickness she had... They're really struggling
financially and stuff, but they love God and like the Book of Mormon,
and hopefully we'll be able to help them.
There are a bunch of other random people we ran into and taught, but
those are probably the coolest for now.
The other night, we had a dinner with the Lopez family (Cheeto, the
one who got baptized) and it was really good. They live on a farm and
killed and cooked one of their own chickens for Elder Sefcik (he's the
one who did the physical baptizing, so Cheeto always calls him
"Padrino" [Godfather]), and we had cake. Todos le dimos una mordida
(we all took a bite, but "una mordida" is different kinda... we all
went to bite the cake, and had it shoved in our face). Cheeto said he
didn't want to do it because he had a sore throat, but when his wife
didn't want to he put her in a headlock and put the cake on her face,
the funniest part, though, was that while he was thus occupied, I told
Elder Sefcik, who was sitting closer, to put Cheetos cake in his face,
which he did. It was basically absolutely hilarious. We got some good
pictures, and I'll send those next week.

been talking to so many different people I can't keep it all straight.

Christmas Eve
Christmas eve was a day of much food. I think I ended up eating a total of fifteen tamales, two plates of beans, one of rice and one of carnitas, as well as some chicken salad dessert tamales, sweet bread, and a couple glasses of milk. That was all just the dinners... I had a bunch of tres leches for lunch and a sandwich for breakfast.
Christmas was brisket, beans, donuts, rice, green beans, and fruit salad. That was also a lot... It's funny, there's never a consstent balance in quantity of food... We're either hungry or being given so much food we want to die haha. It's okay though. Kinda fun.
Nothing else really exciting happened this week. Lot's of people were out of town or working. We did have one of our dinners with a friend of a recent convert who is very excited t learn more, but he's going to be very busy until next week, so we won't be abe to see him until then, most likely... His name is Juan, though.

Anyways, today we're on a member's computer because the libraries are closed, so this'll have to be short again... sorry. I hope everything is going great with you, and I love you guys.

Austin is cold but great!
So this week was interesting. I talked to people from lots of countries besides mexico this week; cuba, honduras, puerto rico, colombia... and I think that's actually it, but it felt like a lot. Also it's been raining a lot, and it's pretty cold today. It's about 40 degrees
Last night something kinda cool happened. Actually, two somethings... the first one is less pertinent because it was in English, so you probably won't hear about it again, but it's cool anyways. We knocked on this apartment door kinda late at night, well... it was like seven, but it's been getting dark around six and there were a bunch of stormclouds in front of the stars, so it was way dark. Anyways, there we were, knocking on an apartment door in the dark rain, in suits and intimidating black coats (Elder Sefcik has a longer black raincoat, and mine is a P-coat), and this scared Lady answers it thinking we're the police, not knowing what she did or what happened. It made some good laughs when she figured out who we were, and then she got pretty serious again and started asking us questions about the Second Coming, infant baptism, eternal marriage, and other cool gospely things. She's been getting kinda scared by all the things going on and she and her boyfriend have been thinking they need to get married seeing how they already live together and have a daughter, and had some questions about all that. We explained to her the readers digest version of the history of christianity and that we were messengers sent by God through a living prophet to answer her questions. She is excited to learn about being sealed to her family and how that was brought back (more in depth) and how she can more closely follow God in her life to ensure happiness and security for her family. It was awesome to feel the spirit testify through us to help her feel that God had sent us there at that very time to help her specifically to acheive the joy he wanted for her. Additionally, we were only there because of some other random occurrences earlier in the week and that day.
Second cool thing: We were running out of time and had planned to be somewhere else, but we felt we should finish talking to the people in the aforementioned apartment building, and because we stayed for those extra couple minutes we ran into a couple walking up the stairs with their laundry, and asked if we could teach them a message about the gospel, and they said yes, so we followed them up into their apartment, where we met the three other people staying there who all turned out to be interested as well, so they turned off the soccer game and learned about the restoration of the gospel. They are all also excited to learn more about the Book of Mormon and what that means.
It had been a really tough week before last night, but those people made it all worth it.
Anyways, love you, talk to you next week.

Baptism
So Cheeto was baptized on Saturday. He was so excited! I'll have to send some pictures. I confirmed him on Sunday, and that was pretty intense because there were a bunch of people there who needed translation for the meeting, so I did that too. It was all a little nerve-racking, but turned out well.
I also saw a kinda funny bumber sticker yesterday... It said, "God's original plan was to hang out in a garden with some naked vegetarians." First, it made me laugh, but then it made me reflect on the purpose of life, and the plan that God has for us. It seems to me that the world's declining morals are due mainly to a deficiency in understanding of the purpose of life. If I thought we were here with all these challenges just because my great great great great great great great great great great great great grandpearents ate some magic fruit, and now we just had to kinda be good and learn about/accept Jesus so we could go back to some garden or heaven or whatever and hang out forever with some naked winged children in the clouds, I'd probably do bad stuff too. I love God with all my heart, but if the purpose was for us all to leave him so only the good ones would come back, and then just sit there and sing about him for the rest of unending eternity, I probably wouldn't care a whole lot... What would compell us to be good besides the fear of punishment? It makes a lot more sense to me for the fall to have been part of the plan, because what do we do all of our life? We learn. We constantly, involuntarily, take in, analyze, and store information, then base our actions off of that information. progression and growth cannot happen until there is some sort of damage or retrogression first. The way that every living thing in nature works, is that it does not become any stronger or better until it faces opposition. Your skin doesn't get thicker until it's torn. Your muscles don't get bigger until you tear them with work. Etc. There was none of that in the garden. That would've been a boring plan. We would've stayed the same forever. Life is only fun when you are accomplishing things... And our capacity to learn and grow makes it obvious that God want's us to be more than we are now. What more would we be if we did less? We have our families to help us learn about our relationship with him and his with us. We don't raise children just so they can come back to our home and tell us how great we are so we'll take care of them for the rest of their lives. We raise them to be self sufficient. To be able to go out on their own and accomplish things. God is the same. He will always be or father, we will always be under his rule, but he wants us to grow up and become more.

! Me Voy!
I'm getting transferred this week. Somewhere in san antonio or austin (or somewhere in between) but I don't know where yet.
So the conference with Elder Zivic was cool. He's from Argentina, so he spoke some spanish and that was kind of cool. Unfortunately, not every missionary in the mission is Spanish speaking, so he had to speak English for most of it.
Yesterday something pretty funny happened. Well, I guess it was a little sad... but it was funny. There were a couple people who randomly showed up in the foyer of the church way early because they took the bus, and apparently the friend who invited them told them it was at ten, but it really started at ten thirty. Upon further investigation we figured out that they had been invited to another nearby church that fit a similar description... that's why they couldn't find their friend. Anyways, we invited them to come in and sit with us until their friend got there, so there they were in their first fast and testimony meeting ever. They seemed a little nervous, until someone mentioned the Book of Mormon, then they looked scared. They got up and left immediately after the service, declining the offer to learn more. It was mildly humorous, but sad st the same time because of how they changed as soon as they found out it was "the mormons." Even though everything was centered on christ and on gaining a closer relation with our father in heaven so we could be happy, and how the family can be eternal (which was interesting; a lot of people talked about that, and the gentleman there had been invited to church by his friend because his dad had died recently and he was having a hard time), they stopped listening at the mention of the word "mormon." I'm coming to really dislike the nickname and how so many people seem to think so negatively of the church. I suppose I can understand disagreeing, but I have done my best to see it from an outsider's perspective, and to think about all of the things that could go agaainst it, but with the knowledge I have of the church, it just makes sense to be true, or at least good. Not something to run from. If God is important to a person at all, it's worth learning about. I just wish I'd been more willing to share it before being a missionary. I'd be better off now, and so would others.
Anyways, I've gotta jet now so I can get ready to ship out. Thanks for everything,

Another week..
This week I got to do some more service stuff. We painted a bit, and got to clear and cut up some brush for a member of the church. The best part was that we got to use machetes to do so, so it was very fun. Doing basically anything with a sword is a riot :)
There's also a guy in the spanish ward who's getting ready to go on his mission, so we've been with him a bit helping him to get ready because he won't be able to go to the MTC, so he's going straight to the field. It's been really cool to see his fire and have his help in a couple of lessons.
We did a lot of tracting this week and a lot of work with the people I mentioned last week, and hopefully they'll be able to make it to church next week. I guess there's not anything too exciting to tell about, though.
So on November fourth we're going to have a conference with Elder Zivic of the Seventy, so that should be really cool. It's pretty funny, on my mission, the things I look forward to the most have been church conferences and talking to strangers. That's not how it was before haha.

Anyways, I'm not sure what else to say now... there's nothing too crazy to tell about. I'll try to have some ridiculous experiences this next week so I can tell you about them. Haha it's kinda funny because there's probably stuff that you'd think was crazy or cool but I'm so used to everything we do every day that nothing really sticks out... I'll tryto be better at that. I love you millon millones.

Working hard....
Everything is going well. Sorry I wasn't able to email last week, the library was closed for the holiday.
The work has been going okay. Last night we went to go by a less active member of the spanish ward and it turns out they moved quite a while ago, but now there is a man living there who is very religeous and loves the bible and God, but has had trouble with churches. He sees a lot of hipocrisy and doesn't agree with what they all teach. He lives there with a little family and has a friend who is over often who wants to improve his choices in life and come closer to God ("agarrar el buen camino," he said), so we'll be teaching them tonight, and he said he'd like to come to our church to see if it feels right. He likes the idea of a living prophet and another book of scripture to help clear up the confusion that has seemed to stem from the first one. They should be cool to teach.
Also, we've finally been able to teach that man who was married to a less active member and had started reading the bookof mormon. He's pretty awesome and his wife and daughter in law (who are both members) want to come back to church. There is some very real, good potential there. We are also teaching them again tonight.
There is a sister in the ward who has always wanted the missionaries to stay at her hous, so she's been building a little apartment in the back, but her husband doesn't really like to work on it so the going has been slow. We decided we should help out with that, and so we've been going over there to do some building and stuff. I'm glad I've had some experience with it and I even got to do a little electrical work, which was cool.
There's another less active family that we are also doing some service for, who has some non-member friends that seem pretty interested and always want to be over there when we are. We're going to be clearing a bunch of stuff out of his back yard and a little remodeling. The father is also way into wolverine and has a bunch of old, original comics, which were tempting to spend some time with, but mostly kuct kinda cool to see.
That's pretty much what we're doing now, nothing too crazy or weird. Oh, I was thinking about halloween and I remembered last year when I got a buch of candy, and, if it's not to late, just wanted to say I don't really need any candy. I can't really think of anything I need or anything... Really my favorite thing to get is stories about spiritual experiences and stuff.

General Conference
General Conference was awesome! At the risk of being like every other missionary, my favorite talk was probably Elder Holland's in the priesthood session. I also really, really enjoyed President Eyring's opening to the last session, though. It's amazing to watch those leaders talk and feel the spirit testify that they are called of God.
So Elder Robinson is now down in eagle pass. My new companion is Elder Reid. He's from a little suburb of Salt Lake City in Utah, and he's been out just a few months.
So I don't really have much more time, and there isn't anything else too new or exciting to share about this week. I did get to spend a little time working in stone oak after I dropped off elder robinson and waited for elder reid. That was especially cool because the stone oak elders were having dinner with Louis Flores, so I got to see him again :) I don't know if I mentioned that he got baptized in August.
So that's pretty much it. Love you a tonelada too :)
